Silk Cayes – Tim’s Discover Scuba
My husband, Tim, has wanted to dive with me but had some health concerns when I got certified. While we were in Belize for a month he decided to do a discover scuba course to see how it feels. He’s hooked just as much as I am now! It was stormy that day, so the initial dive in the shallows around the caye were quite murky from the sand in the water.

White Hole
On Tim’s open water dive he had some issues clearing his left ear so I spent a lot of time below him and this is when I learned that when I look up I get salt water up my nose, which is unpleasant. There were so many nurse sharks on this dive, which I now understand is the case on Silk Caye dives. The nurse sharks are there hoping you’ll spear some lion fish for them.
If you notice he doesn’t have a mask on in that entry image, he doesn’t. He lost his balance while preparing to roll in and actually fell in prematurely. Thankfully, his mask was easily retrieved.
