This was Tim’s first dive in a wetsuit and with his new dive gear since getting certified in September. This first of 9 dives in Cozumel wasn’t the best because of that. During this trip Tim and I are getting our NAUI AOW and Nitrox Diver certifications. At the time we were certified NAUI required 6 dives. We did:

  • Deep (Required)
  • Navigation (Required)
  • Night Dive (Night or low visibility are required)
  • DSMB
  • Wreck
  • Drift – hard not to do this in Cozumel

We also did trim & buoyancy (Cindy rocks at teaching this… but she rocks at everything she does!) We were very different divers by the end of our 9 dives with her.

Lessons learned:

  • Don’t add new everything and expect the dive to go flawlessly
  • Don’t let the crew setup my gear. I dive a poseidon xstream regulator and it is different. When turning on the gas, you need to turn it on quick so the ruby will seat. If it is turned on slowly it doesn’t seat and you get freeflow air.
